President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Tonobok Okowa, has explained why Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be Nigeria’s only representative at the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland later this month
he shot putter will compete at the global indoor meet scheduled to take place from March 20 to 22, marking the second consecutive edition in which he will be the country’s sole entrant.
After the qualification window closed on Sunday, Enekwechi and Gafari Badmus were the only Nigerian athletes outside the United States collegiate system to achieve the entry standard for the championships.
Other athletes such as Adaobi Tabugbo in the women’s 60m hurdles and Fola Olaoye in the men’s 60m qualified through the world top list but eventually did not enter the competition.
