Nigeria’s track and field athletes have stepped up preparations for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games as they enter the second week of their six-week first-phase camping programme in Asaba, Delta State.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria opened the camp last week, bringing together seasoned campaigners and promising young talents at the Stephen Keshi Stadium ahead of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.
According to a camp update provided by the AFN media department, 18 athletes and 10 officials are currently training in Asaba.
Now in week two of the first phase, the focus has shifted from general conditioning to more event-specific drills, with sprinters, jumpers, throwers and hurdlers intensifying their routines.
AFN head coach Solomon Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far in the opening phase of preparations.
