Inspector‑General of Police Kayode Egbetokun visited Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to express sympathy after armed men kidnapped students from St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Council.
Describing the abduction as “troubling and heart‑breaking,”
Egbetokun noted that Niger’s strategic location demands a coordinated response.
He reported that 50 of the abducted children have already been freed and that additional tactical units and expanded intelligence operations have been deployed to secure the release of the remaining students and their teachers.
The police chief called for a united front among all security agencies and stakeholders to confront the growing insecurity across the country.
